Professional
A multidisciplinary engineer, I pride myself on my ability to build positive professional relationships with end clients and external contractors during the installation and commissioning phases of complex industrial projects. Acting as the interface between machine manufacturers and production environments, I take ownership of coordination, troubleshooting, and on-site decision-making, while continuously optimising machine performance in real time to meet process, quality, and reliability requirements.
I completed an apprenticeship as a fitter & turner between 2003 – 2008 at a specialist hydraulic company in Dublin, Ireland, before moving to Australia, and working as a maintenance fitter in various different industries such as mining, manufacturing and heavy sheet metal processing.
It was while working as a maintenance technician at Locker Group in Melbourne, Australia, between 2009 – 2012, and carrying out the day to day maintenance and repairs of several large SOENEN hydraulic punching presses, that I had my first real exposure to CNC machinery. Excited and amazed, I decided that this was path for me. I wanted to learn more.
In 2012 I sought out a Service Technician role with the Australian company GWB Machine Tools, where I had the opportunity to work with LVD sheet metal industry machines such as CNC laser cutters, press brakes, turret punching machines and metal shears. This gave me my first real insight into the inner workings of these types of machines, and also the opportunity to work closely with the engineers responsible for their development. I now knew that just fixing them wasn’t going to be enough for me. I wanted to build them.
It was this experience which took me to Germany in 2015, where I began to work for the German office of LVD, also as a Service Technician, while also completing a Bachelors Degree in Mechatronics with the ATU in Sligo, Ireland, for which I received a distinction for my efforts.
In 2017 I began my journey as a freelancing project engineer at the company WAVELABS Solar Meteorology Systems GmbH in Leipzig, Germany, for whom I also worked as a full time employee between 2018 – 2021, before then returning to freelancing in 2022.
